Well, I think it’s fair to say that none of us saw this coming! There have been rumblings for a while now that the divide between Marvel Entertainment and Marvel Studios had resulted in The Inhumans being shelved, and it now appears as if those reports were indeed accurate as the project is instead moving forward at Marvel Television in what looks set to be a very unique way of launching a TV series.

Set to premiere on ABC next Fall, the first two episodes will be shot entirely with IMAX digital cameras for a two week run in IMAX theaters worldwide at the beginning of September. The network will then premiere the weekly series later in the Fall with exclusive extra content which can only be seen there.

Now, many of you are probably thinking that the show will revolve around the not that exciting Inhumans we’ve seen in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., right? Well, think again, as the press release confirms that, “Marvel’s The Inhumans” will explore the never-before-told epic adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family.” This obviously makes it clear that we won’t be seeing them as part of Phase 4.

Considering the fact that the Marvel movies have largely ignored what happens on ABC and Netflix, chances are this limited IMAX run is the only time we’ll see the Inhumans on the big screen.

Ego The Living Planet…

James Gunn has said that he knew Star-Lord’s father would end up being Ego the Living Planet way back when he was working on the first movie, but following reports that Marvel Studios only recently acquired the character after a Deadpool trade, could it be that he originally had someone else in mind? Taking to his Facebook page earlier today, the filmmaker revealed that he actually always wanted Ego.

“When I first pitched Ego as Quill’s father, I THOUGHT we owned the character. After I had worked out a very elaborate story with Ego the Living Planet as a very important part of the Marvel cosmic universe, I learned that we actually didn’t own the character. I had no back up plan, and it would be nearly impossible to just drop another character in. Thank God Fox came to us and wanted to make a trade.” Had that deal not taken place, who knows who would have ended up subbing in for Ego!

Things worked out well for Marvel here, though you have to wonder if Fox realised they were giving up such an important character for the opportunity to just tweak the powers of one of their many mutants. Given the success of Deadpool, they probably don’t mind too much, and we’ll get to see Kurt Russell’s Ego in action when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 blasts its way to the big screen next May.

COMICS: Batman Will Assemble His Own SUICIDE SQUAD?

You have to believe that most writers would pass on the chance to take over a title like Batman after Scott Snyder’s incredible 50+ issue run, but Tom King has been doing an excellent job so far of continuing the Caped Crusader’s adventures. This October, the first part of “I Am Suicide” goes on sale, and it definitely sounds like Batman is going to have to put together a very unusual sort of team.

Based on the cover art and solicitation text, it really does seem as if the Dark Knight will be assembling a Suicide Squad of his greatest villains to help take on an even larger threat. Handled the right way, this story has the potential to be something really special, so it should be one worth keeping an eye on. Expect more details to be revealed as we get closer to the Fall or possibly at Comic-Con this week!
